Pool Progress

Well I didn't have any late night brainstorms and to be honest it has been really quiet around here the last couple of weeks.  All the snowbirds have flown north and leave us wondering what we are still doing here.  So we have to stay busy doing something and that's where the pool at the other house comes in.  I have been trying to keep up with the progress and so when I stop over with lunch for Gary or maybe a quickie, I mean a quick visit, I try to remember the camera.  (We are too old for quickies at this point,  probably should be called a slowpoke instead.)

Pool this week

But I have fallen off track so back to the pool progress.  The cement is curing, the pipes are now in the ground and we are waiting for some more fittings before the next inspection.  So, slowly things are moving forward.

The TV news here reported that the Farmer's Almanac has predicted a warmer than normal summer here. It feels like summer here now and it is only April, we are in the 80s to 90s every day, not a lot of rain so far and the humidity is right up there.  So its either the pool or the AC and it looks like we will be in that rut for a few months.  We may even have to hit the beach a couple times but we do what we must.

So enjoy the weather up north, we see that it is pretty nice there and we'll get the pool ready for the snowbirds when the migration starts next fall.  Margaret

Late Night Brainstorm

Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night and think you have just come up with the greatest idea ever? This is exactly what happened to me last night.  As I was rolling over one of the dogs I came up with the topic of this week's blog and that is my continued search for the perfect coffee maker.  I have gone thru so many coffee makers since I started drinking coffee over 40 years ago you would think I have it all figured out.  I really don't think its because I am that hard on them.  I may not clean them as often as I should (or at all)  but I usually make a pot a day, the machine is off after two hours and we start all over the next day.  So why do they keep breaking down?

My latest machine was a Hamilton Beach that didn't need a pot.  We loved it especially since I had forgotten to put the pot in the prior machine and when the coffee came on automatically in the morning the coffee smelled great as it ran off the counter and on to the floor.  The Hamilton Beach machine didn't even have a pot, you just pressed a button to get your coffee so what could possibly go wrong?  The button stopped working.

I have a graveyard of coffee makers; a self-grinding one that is a real bitch to clean so forget that(see above), a camping pot with a hole in it and a percolator my mother-in-law swears by.  But it just reminds me of the Maxwell House jingle from the 1960's and then I can't get it out of my head and when I finally do, its time to start the percolator again.

So I either have to quit drinking coffee, no.  Buy cheap coffee makers so I don't get so upset when they quit working, good option or just go to Starbucks daily.  Not happening, I don't want to deal with people before I have my coffee.  Especially cheerful people who want me to spend $10 on a small coffee.

So out came the cheap machine and so far so good.  I even remembered to put the pot on it before it started brewing.  Who knows what I'll dream up the next time I squash a dog?   Margaret

PS - the pool was started on Friday at the other house, we are pretty excited!   Will keep you posted.
