As I write this blog entry I am barely awake. Jan just left after a full-on girl's weekend. Where do I begin? She got here around noon on Thursday and we were off and running. Our first stop was lunch, of course. We stopped at a new Fort Myers eatery called The Firestone. This is in honor of Mr. Firestone who was a great friend of Mr. Ford and Mr. Edison. The Firestone is right on the water downtown and as you can see, we felt like someone was watching us eat. Tires are everywhere, the walls, the bar, even the bathroom. And if you get a flat while you are eating there, you can buy a tire which really comes in handy. Just put it on your tab.

I followed Jan into the bathroom - the sinks are made of tires!
We had time for a quick game of golf and Jan actually won. She can be such a show-off.

After our massages at Hotel Bella Sera in Naples.
On Friday we headed to Naples for massages courtesy of Gary. This was part of my Christmas present and he done good. Note to men: if you don't have a clue what to get the wife/girlfriend, go with a nice massage. It has been a while since I have had one and I truthfully did not want it to end. Could someone just rub my feet please.

Then we headed to a local hamburger joint. Now when you're in Naples you can really class it up if you want to but that's just not our style. I had heard about this burger joint and I even had a coupon so it was an easy decision. We went for the loaded baked potato burger and the glazed donut burger. Yes, it really does come on a glazed donut and it was wonderful. You're not really sure if you're eating breakfast or lunch. Note to self: If you run out of hamburger buns and you happen to have a box of Krispy Kremes just sitting on the counter, give it a whirl. Then we had to do some girly shopping and Naples is just the spot for that. Naples truly has a lot to offer and glazed donut hamburgers too.
Bonita Bills was on the way home so we had to stop off for a quick one or two. We asked a 100 year old man to take our picture but he had no idea how to use a camera so we found another old coot. He took it right before he fell off his bar stool. I think he wanted Jan's phone number too.
Saturday we were off to Fort Myers Beach for a day of reading and tanning. The weather during Jan's visit could not have been nicer, we were breaking records and we took full advantage of it. As we sat on the beach I kept hearing drums and it seemed like they were getting louder as the day went on. We could not believe our eyes when a marching band came marching down the beach. They put on a little show right by us and if you were less than 25 years old you could dance along.
After I was burnt to a crisp (Jan hogged the umbrella all day), we saundered over to Nervous Nellie's for happy hour. This was about 10 blocks away so we schlepped the chairs, umbrella, cooler, beach bags, etc. and headed over for music and Margaritas. After we were there for a while, the music just got better and better.
Of course we were hungry by this time so we thought we would share a sandwich. OMG. We could not even finish half of it and this was meant for one person. WTF? Is this where Paul Bunyan eats? Gary came to pick us up and we continued to be happy all the way home. We both jumped in the pool we were so happy and I think all the neighbors knew we were happy too. Nervous Nellie's does that to you. It doesn't really make you nervous.

This sandwich weighed about 10 pounds.
We had time for another quick game of golf this morning before Jan packed up and headed back to Minnesota. We checked the weather for her and it was about 10 below with the wind chill. She just kept putting on clothes.
|
Sunday morning - golf or church? I'm thinking golf.
The time went so fast and we tried to pack a lot into a few days. We picked up right where we left off. Girlfriends can do that. And I can't wait until we can do it again. Margaret
